the red legged or “French” partridge. Common throughout the
British Isles but in smaller quantities than in the past due primarily
to the widespread use of pesticides on its favored habitat.

Present throughout the year with resident population reinforced
during the winter by the arrival of migratory birds from Russia &
other parts of N Europe.

Also known as the black grouse; much larger & much rarer than the
red grouse. Most common in the woodlands of N Wales, N England & Scotland.
PHEASANT

Introduced to England from Asia around the 11th century. Common as a
wild bird but now reared artificially in huge numbers to augment stock for
the shooting season running from Oct to Jan.
