Description

The listing, Art Nouveau Era Vintage Glass and Filigreed Rosary has ended.

Older, lovely glass beaded Traditional Rosary with Filigreed end caps and a marvelous Patina. Has the 50 loop beads the 4 antiphone beads dividing the decades and the six pendant beads. Some of the endcaps are only partly there, or partial endcaps!
The center medallion portrays Christ with a Corona and a cut wreath of flowers suggestive of art nouveau influence. Reverse medallion finds Mother Mary holding the Infant Jesus. Mary has the twelve stars above her head depicting her as the the Queen Of Heaven. I know the Crucifix is not original to the item, it does look older (1940's) with a semi raised corpus but the metals don't really match and I know the Rosary is older. No hallmarks or anything to suggest country of origin etc. Just very pretty. There is wear from use but the components of the Rosary (not the crucifix) suggest dating within the Art Nouveau Period of 1880 to 1920 this is only based on stylization of the medallion and could be later.
Please keep in mind that this piece is very old, fragile and well used, certainly many prayers went forth from the hands of the former owner. Do not expect perfect, instead you will find something "Perfectly Wonderful"

Really lovely! Are you sure the crucifix is not original? From what I can tell the size and style are dead on-so it is an appropriate replacement. My guess is it is either Italian or central European. I own a handful and have seen many more and none of them have makers marks-save for 1 childs plastic one made in Japan-so I'd say this beauty not being marked is a good thing!

Interesting, I thought the colors being different would make it a replacement. I have a box of them and some from the now deceased nuns at the saint paul friary and one missionary brothers pectoral type cross but large like a monks belt. Very old with the skull and crossbones on the cross.

Having separation issues with the triptych, so probably won't list. Maybe another one though.
