In my personal experience, this did not teach my elder daughter to read other words... but she was able to spell and write or read some small words (that are on the videos) due to this (cat, dog) when she was very young (approx 2yo).... and when she was in kindergarten she learned reading SUPER quick, so these videos are helpful. But I think very few kids actually learn reading from these videos... best way to teach your kids reading is by READING to them from books, over and over, and I LOVE Jolly Phonics, that's what my daughter's Kindergarten used and it is WONDERFUL. And you can look up the Jolly Phonics songs, etc, on youtube to see what I mean, my daughter practiced with those.... Your Baby can read is great for helping getting your kid excited to read though. That's why I was really bummed out when my daughter broke the disc. The cases are horrible, if you put ANYTHING on the case the weight will cause a crack in the center of the disc.(atleast in mine)

they had a hard case the held the entire set. But during my cleaning of the storage unit, my kids mistakenly threw it away.

@ coolgurl... I don't know your situation with your toddlers... but my older daughter barely talked until almost 4 yo, she was very smart (she could tell you letters, colors, count, etc) just wasn't much of a talker... so sometimes kids do things at their own pace... also you said they were toddlers, are they twins born early, cause in that case their development might just be a little slower/behind. Just keep reading and talking and they will get there!!

i am not sure, I never used hooked on phonics. Sorry. Maybe you can check online and see some reviews on it. Compare to hooked on phonics. Hope that helps you.
