OK. I've read every definition of cud I could find. All it means is something held in the mouth and chewed, such as a quid of tobacco or regurgitated food.
It just looks like a dent to me.

LOL! Cud is also a term often used by people who collect coins. In coin collection terminology, a cud is defined as a raised lump of metal. This is caused by the breaking off a piece of the die. My husband is a numismatist (another $2 word for coin collector) he has had several coins attributed to him as "rare finds" so I am use to all the big words, but believe me for a long time it was like he was speaking a foreign language! So you have learned something new. Thanks for the question.
