9k Gold plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal. 9K gold denotes 37.5% gold purity. 9k is the minimum standard used in UK where the minimum in the US is 10k. Jewelers will tell you that any alloy containing 9k gold has only a minor percentage "real" gold and because of US standards has no gold resell value. It still 9K gold but there are no Hallmarks for this. Most people do not have any problems with the gold plating it is the metal alloy under the gold plating. If you have allergy to metals this piece could cause a rash or discolor your skin. The base alloy of this piece is copper. It is advised to take off your jewelry before washing or bathing. Clean it gently with soft cloth or an appropriate jewelry cleaner, this could help to eliminate any dirt or dust and make it last for years.
