**Please note I did take these pics from the web, as my own tree is still located at my parents home**
There is so much to say about this plant. My advice is if you don't know about it, google & learn about all it's wonders. I will add some links for some info in comment section.
First lets talk about what you are gettign & how it grows. You will be getting 2 cuttings at least 8" long (most are at least 10"). These look a little like a thin plumeria cutting. It looks like just a green stick, and can be kept as such for up to a month. When I plant mine, I basicly just stick it in the ground & let it do it's thing here in FL. My original plant I bought as a cutting & it is now over 8ft tall. You can let it grow as a tree like I do, or keep it as a shrub or container plant. In the winter it does loose all its leaves here but as soon as it warms up they come back. It is not fond of the cold, or being too wet. Mine are always in full sun. Once established it is very drought tolerant.
The variety I have is a 5 lobed leaf, that get larger than my hand. It has no stinging hairs & throws off lots of clusters of small white flowers that butterflies love.
Now - The leaves are edible & highly nutritious. It is recommended you cook them prior to eating & do NOT cook in anything aluminum. Chaya has up to 10 (TEN) times the calcium as spinach. 4x the protein as spinach! It can be made into tea, used in soups, smoothies, anywhere you would use cooked greens. You can find some great recipes online if you search for them. Once established you can harvest up to 50% of its leaves at one time. It is said to help with ailments such as:
Improve blood circulation,
help digestion,
improve vision,
disinflame veins and hemorrhoids,
help lower cholesterol,
help reduce weight,
prevent coughs,
augment calcium in the bones,
decongest and disinfect the lungs,
prevent anemia by replacing iron in the blood,
improve memory and brain function and
combat arthritis and diabetes.
