Description

The listing, 1937 Air Mail Field Cover Plus has ended.

1937 cover with duplex cancel (the oval striped shape with the number "1" inside beside the postmark are stamped together using the duplex stamp).

Interesting to see the backside has a DIFFERENT duplex cancel, instead of the number one, you see the letters DEL (Delaware?) and AIR MAIL FIELD Cleveland postmark!

Don't see a whole lot of either of the ten cent air mail stamps on either cover!

Fantastic covers for this era who likes to collect airmail, or covers, cancel & postmark collectors too!

Information on the 10 cent stamp with the airplane on it:
This stamp marked the very first time that a living person was honored on a U.S. postage stamp. It was issued in response to thousands of urgent requests from people who wrote to Washington asking for such a commemorative stamp.

Government-operated airmail lines were well established by 1925. But to many, it seemed advantageous to let private enterprise take over. In an effort to promote civil aviation, an Act of Congress set the rate of airmail matter on a contract basis. This issue fulfilled the rate on contract airmail, which was 10¢ per ounce up to 1,000 miles.
