I've been looking for a laptop. Mainly for surfing the Web. I was wondering if you can hook up a printer to this. I really don't know much about computers. Thanks. I am watching and I fanned you.

the laptop has usb 2.0 input ports. Other than the required printer device, you'd most likely have to update its synaptic.

It's been a while since I've used this device if I have printed documents in the past, I don't remember.

my answer is: most likely

as for the device's OS: (double checked) its xandros linux

I forgot to ask: does it have an cd rom drive?

to read or write on disk media the netbook would require an external disk drive. This system is not equipped with a cd rom drive as asked. I hope that answers your question.

how does this system compare to microsoft?

Since the debut of Microsoft windows 8, I'd say that the learning curve for this 'linux' operating system is much easier (since it's GUI caters to stationary icons, the mouse arrow, & more its traditional) Of course there's the verbose mode, aka.command-line interface. This operating system is very different from the Meto User Interface (MUI) in Windows 8 (microsoft). In my opinion, (not mentioning microsoft's next release: Windows 8.1) Windows 8 caters best to touchscreen devices. It took me two weeks to adjust to microsoft's operating system layout (MSdesktop & MUI). In addition, I am a pretty fast learner. In addition,I think because of its simplicity, the Linux distro (the 'asus-customized one ' mentioned in the description) its Is very unlike microsoft's Windows 8 and more like XP, a traditional GUI with stationary icons and mouse friendly. Windows 8 is well saturated with bells, eye-candy, snap, crackle, pops, and whistles, e.g. charm-bar and Metro User Interface. I hope that's answered your question.

facebook games are java/flash. within Linux you'd have to update your synaptic package manager or install the flash java within the software repo. In Theory is must, However, honestly, I haven't played facebook games on it; I'm no longer using facebook since two years or so.

F & W... Is Linux fairly easy to operate?

there is its verbose and graphic user interface. popular examples of Linux are Android and Chromium -they are both based on the linux kernel. with any Operating system, there's going to be a learning curve. especially for those who has never used Linux in the past.

whats the battery life like on it, how many hours say, surfing the web? Also, could you possibly install one of the other distos you mentioned (EasyPeasy or JoliOS) if the person wanted one of those on it instead, or include the CD to install one of those? just asking in case I win, probably dont have enough credits, but sure want this one. :) GREAT AUCTION. I Fanned you, You can Fan me back if you'd like. :)

When I factory reset the device, I used the recovery disk to do so. Amazingly, it has an .exe file that creates the recovery usb. Then with the manual's instructions, I was able to go forward with factory reset.

Battery life is 2-3hrs i believe. It's been a while since got on the device.

you wouldn't happen to have an external cd rom that is used with this netbook? I'm rocking an ASUS similar to this one and can vouch for these lil systems. F & W ;)
+1
May 8th, 2013 at 2:37:01 AM PDT by
Original
for the recovery disk, I took it into a windowsOS. It has an executable file (windows-friendly) that allows you to create a recovery bootable usb (asus-customized-linuxOS). once created. selecting the usb for the first boot option allows it to factory reset.
