Just fold up a piece of paper to fit inside the envelope and tape the ring inside the folds. Be sure that the resulting bump is not on the stamp end of the envelope. Stamp cancellation is done by machinery and will rip the envelope if the bump is under the stamp. Just be sure the ring cannot slide around and it should be OK.
