The tester comes with a case, battery, and instructions, and the battery is brand-new. The amount that the volume is adjusted depends on the room's temperature and diamond-size (you should get a "feel" for it quickly).

If you test diamond (as in pic 1), then the bars go red and it beeps. Diamond ring not included - it's my engagement ring and my fiancee WOULD NOT be happy with me if I gave it away, LOL. If you test CZ (as in pic 2) it does not beep and the bars stay green. Necklace not included - I just purchased it two days ago and I still like it. If you test metal, the bars will go red, but you will hear a long, continuous (not pulsing) beep. Again, instructions are included. You will need to be careful when changing the battery (it is tightly connected), but the battery compartment is easy to open (see pics 5 & 6).

Comes from a smoke-free, hairy pet-free home (I have a snake and gecko, but they can do no harm : ) ).
