IMPORTANT:

Certain model Dell Laptops have a "safety" feature that can detect whether or not an official Dell charger is plugged into it.

With the affected models (such as the Dimension D800, for example) if a 3rd party charger is used, the computer detects this and turns off the charging circuits, sending no juice to the battery. Current is allowed through to power up the laptop, but none goes to charge your battery, meaning you could leave it plugged in for days, weeks, or years, and it will never charge your battery.

SUMMARY: If you have a Dell Dimension D800 laptop and you KNOW your battery will still hold a charge, get an official Dell charger, rather than this one, as it cannot be used to charge your battery, due to "safety" features built into that model laptop.

There may or may not be other models with this PSU detection code in the bios. No one really knows, but I assume it will be up to YOU, the bidder to do your own research to find out whether or not your Dell model has this "safety" feature. As far as the D800, I can confirm that this model laptop DOES have the feature because I own a D800 laptop, AND I also own one of these 3rd party chargers.

or you can go into bios and turn this feature off, and its easy to find out if you have a psu detection code in bios, you are right about this though, most people are not aware of this, and is why dell makes hand over fist, and is exactly why this measure was implemented
