Do you know if this is the older model GB SP or newer? On the newer one you can make the screen go brighter and the older one only has one brightness setting.

Actually both of them have the button on it. The thing is on the old one when you press the button the light turns off or on. On the new one the light gets brighter when you press the button.

it goes on and off just by pressing it not holding on to it hope this helps. So i guess its the old on all i know is it work and its a Game Boy Advance SP
